The Principality
The beauty of Monaco
Seven centuries of sovereignty, pressed into barely a square mile of the most beautiful coastline on earth. This is the first impression, long before the first whistle.
Seven Centuries on the Rock
Why "The Rock"? Monaco-Ville, the old town, sits atop a steep limestone headland that juts into the Mediterranean, rising about 60 metres (roughly 200 feet) and ringed by sea on three sides. Fortified by the Genoese in 1215 and then held by the Grimaldis since 1297, this natural stronghold is the oldest and most historic of Monaco's four districts, home to the Prince's Palace and the cathedral.
For more than seven hundred years, the House of Grimaldi has reigned over this improbable jewel of the Mediterranean. In 1297, François Grimaldi seized the fortress on the Rock disguised as a monk, the two sword-bearing friars still emblazoned on Monaco's coat of arms. Genoese by origin, sovereign by will, the Principality endures as one of Europe's oldest ruling dynasties, today led by HSH Prince Albert II.
Barely a square mile pressed between the Maritime Alps and the sea, Monaco rises in tiers of pastel façades, palm-lined terraces and Belle Époque grandeur. From the medieval lanes of Monaco-Ville atop the Rock, to the yacht-filled basin of Port Hercule, the casino gardens of Monte-Carlo and the sculpted seafront of Fontvieille and Larvotto, every metre is a view worth framing.
The most densely glamorous address on the planet, and the beating heart of the Riviera's high season.

The Rock · Cradle of the Grimaldis
Perched on "The Rock", old Monaco is a warren of medieval lanes barely changed in centuries. The original fortress was raised by the Genoese in 1215 before the Grimaldi dynasty seized the Rock in 1297, legend has it François Grimaldi slipped in disguised as a monk, the very sword-bearing friars still on Monaco's coat of arms.

The Oceanographic Museum
Founded 1910 · The "Explorer Prince"
Carved into the cliff face and rising 85 metres above the Mediterranean, this "temple of the sea" was founded in 1910 by Prince Albert I, a devoted oceanographer. Its monumental façade towers over the water like the prow of a ship.
Inside: vast aquariums, a shark lagoon, over 6,000 specimens and the story of undersea exploration, the legendary Jacques Cousteau served as its director from 1957 to 1988. The rooftop terrace offers one of the finest views in the whole Principality.
A must for families and the curious alike, science, splendour and breathtaking views.

Contemporary Culture · On the Seafront
Opened in 2000, this ultra-modern cultural and exhibition centre, partly built out over the sea, is the beating heart of Monaco's artistic life. Its programme changes through the year: major art retrospectives, photography and fashion exhibitions, ballet and opera.
It is also the stage for landmark events such as Monte-Carlo Fashion Week and many of the season's galas. A place where today's Monaco converses with the greatest names in world culture.
Always check what's showing, the exhibitions rival those of the world's great capitals.

One place, three names
The Riviera, in three words
You will hear all three your whole life without always realising they mean the same place. Here they are.
Côte d'Azur"The Azure Coast." The official French name for this Mediterranean coastline.
French RivieraThe name the rest of the world uses. The very same glamorous coast, in English.
South of FranceThe broadest term of all. It takes in the Riviera plus neighbouring Provence.
All three point to the same place: the sun-warmed southeastern coast of France, running from Saint-Tropez in the west to Menton on the Italian border, threading through Cannes, Antibes, Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer and the cliff-top village of Èze. Monaco is its sovereign jewel, an enclave set upon that coast. And the most beautiful road in Europe, the three Corniches, climbs from Nice to Monaco, the sea on one side, the mountains on the other.

Rosé, the true colour of the Riviera
Côtes de Provence · at the heart of the Côte d'Azur
Rosé may be the oldest wine of all. Long before deep, tannic reds, the first wines were pressed pale and pink, barely tinted by the skins. Medieval Bordeaux prized the vin d'une nuit, the "wine of one night," and Provence perfected that pale, bone-dry style centuries ago.
Then the Riviera made it a symbol. From Saint-Tropez to Monte-Carlo, chilled Provençal rosé is the default pour of summer, on yacht decks, at beach clubs, in the casino gardens and the Grand Prix suites. Houses like Whispering Angel, Domaines Ott, Minuty and Miraval turned Côtes de Provence into a global emblem of the good life.
Order it pale, order it cold. On the Rock, a glass of rosé is less a drink than a way of life.

A History Lesson
The story of the Stade Louis II
A feat of engineering reclaimed from the sea, and the only stadium in the entire Principality.
The first Stade Louis II opened in 1939, already the home of AS Monaco, and is named after Louis II, the Sovereign Prince of Monaco at the time. In 1979, Prince Rainier III resolved to give the Principality an entirely new sports complex in the Fontvieille district.
Entrusted to Parisian architects, work began in May 1981 and finished in 1984. It demanded 120,000 m³ of concrete, 9,000 tonnes of iron and 2,000 tonnes of steel structure, all on land reclaimed from the sea. Prince Rainier III inaugurated the stadium on 25 January 1985.
Instantly recognisable by its nine arches, the stadium hides most of its facilities underground: the Gaston-Médecin multi-sports arena, the Prince Albert II aquatic centre, a vast car park beneath the pitch, and the International University of Monaco. It has hosted the Herculis Diamond League athletics meeting since 1987 and staged the UEFA Super Cup from 1998 to 2012.

In 2026, AS Monaco Football Féminine turns fifty. Half a century since the first women's team took the field in the Principality, and the most important season in our history is about to begin. This is a rare, once in a generation moment, the kind a brand builds a legacy around.
A select circle of founding partners will write their names into the story of the Golden Anniversary, beside the crest, on the shirt, and across every matchday at Stade Louis II. When the world looks at Monaco this season, it will see you too.
Where the world's most exclusive stage meets American ambition.
